Fire Mitigation Efforts

As part of our Fire Mitigation Plan, whenever there is an elevated risk of fire combined with wind, we modify the operations of our electric system in the affected areas. Simply put, we turn the protective devices on our lines to their most sensitive settings. While this aids in fire prevention, it can increase the possibility of an outage. In the event something does trip our sensitive breakers, the duration of the outage may be longer because we take extra precautions to ensure the line is clear before re-energizing. When necessary, we also have crews in the affected areas to enable them to respond to an outage or fire situation as fast as possible. Once the warning expires, the system returns to normal operation.

Due to the current conditions and the prediction of wind gusts by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) we will be placing the following substations at their most sensitive settings today 7/13/2021 from 1:30 pm to approximately 8 pm:

  • Tenmile
  • Lookingglass
  • Melrose
  • Umpqua
  • Oakland
  • Fairoaks
  • Yoncalla
  • Elkton
  • Drain

This does not mean that we are shutting off the power, we are just setting the protective devices on the feeders in those substations to their most sensitive settings.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. Never hesitate to call us if you have any questions or concerns.
