Green Power
Not all power is the same; now it comes in green... What on earth is
Green Power? Good question! Green Power is energy generated by
renewable re sources like water, wind, sun and even garbage. Unlike
fossil fuels, it is renewable by the effects of the sun, so it's
considered by many to be environmentally friendly.
Now you, as a member of Douglas Electric, in conjunction with the PNGC
Power, can support the production of green energy recovered from an
unusual resource: a landfill. The Coffin Butte Resource Project in
Corvallis, Oregon, collects energy from an adjacent landfill and
converts it into electricity. Here's how it works: Much of what goes
into a landfill is organic. When these organic materials decay, they
produce methane gas. Methane, the main ingredient in natural gas, is
then used to power the generators that produce energy.
The Coffin Butte Resource Project has received special recognition for
its operations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Currently, the electricity you and other Northwest customers use is
generated by a variety of resources. Up until now, you've had no
choice about how that power is generated. But now, you can choose to
go green by supporting the operations of renewable resources in the
Northwest. Now there's a choice. Power you want to support. At your
request, Douglas Electric will direct an additional dollar amount,
selected by you, to be added to your bill to fund the production of
Green Power from Coffin Butte. The Green Power will be used in
Northwest homes like yours. Your support will also show that you want
the continued development of renewable resources in the Northwest. If
you want to find out more about Green Power, simply call our main
office in Roseburg. We'll send you more information about the option
and how you can become a supporter of Green Power in the Northwest.
